Summer Mischief

It's official...the allure of these flowers down at ground level is just too irrestible for Averie to withstand...petals are being pulled off left and right...

Confronted with mounting evidence and eyewitness testimony related to these unauthorized petal removals, Averie searches for a plausible explanation...we get something about a friend who stopped by and was wearing the same outfit - perhaps she was mistaken for someone else?

"Seriously Dad, just between you and me, don't believe a word this kid says...I saw the whole thing!"

Touchy Subject

Made a roadtrip this summer to Missouri for Melanie's grandparents 60th wedding anniversary celebration, which included an authentic outdoor camp-fire style fish fry (thanks to Melanie's dad for running the show), closely contested bouts of doubles lawn darts, myriads of kids running about drinking out of each others sippy cups (...wait, where did you get that...whose cup is that?), and the hotel pool underwater challenge (yes, it is possible to hold your breath and swim underwater from one end to the other and back...although intense negotiations with your cardiovascular system take place over the last 10 meters).

Averie took a tumble on the sidewalk during the weekend...perhaps her first major mishap since her conversion to exclusive full-time walking...she steadfastly maintains that the sun got in her eyes and caused her to lose balance, it definitely wasn't that she was running faster than her little legs could move...and we tried to get an exclusive interview with her after she ate lunch in a small park before heading home...as you can see, it was still too soon to talk about...the far off stare, the trite answers, the raw emotion...we're confident she'll get past this, but we decided it was best to give her a little space...
